CACP staff attend the 2017 CES convention January 5-8, 2017

Nathan Moon and Ken Bernard attended the 2017 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, January 5-8, 2017. Ken examined new product lines and educational technologies which can be relevant to the many sponsored activities of CACP; while Nathan attended conference sessions and exhibits. They met with industry partners and took part in private tours of products which have accessibility features.

Helena Mitchell selected for Delegation to visit Cuba

Helena Mitchell has been selected to be part of a delegation which she attended meetings in Cuba in early August 2015.  The Delegation is sponsored by the New York Diversity Council who selected 24 members from across the U.S.  Dr. Mitchell is part of the Education Interest Section and met with universities, broadcast executives, ministry of higher education and other organizations to discuss areas of mutual interest.

Congrats to researcher Dr. DeeDee Bennett

Congratulations to Dr. DeeDee Bennett who has accepted a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the School of Public Administration at the University of Nebraska - Omaha UNO. Starting this Fall, she will lecture an introductory course on emergency management and an advanced course on disaster response and recovery. Although CACP loses a great researcher and colleague, we wish her the best and anticipate working with Dr. Bennett in the future.

Salimah LaForce attended the 40th Annual Natural Hazards Research and Applications Workshop July 20 - 21, 2015 in Broomfield, Colorado. The workshop was designed to bring together researchers and practitioners from many disciplines together for face-to-face discussions on how society deals with hazards and disasters.

Helena Mitchell met with Dr. Luminita Vasiu in London

Helena Mitchell met on July 15th and 16th, 2015 with Dr. Luminita Vasiu, head of the Amity University (in) London, representatives from the London School of Business and other stakeholders to plan an executive workshop tentatively titled "Business, Advanced Communications and Academia Collaborations: across mutual fields of interest." The 2016 workshop, will be held in London, inviting experts from the U.S. and Europe to share strategies for leveraging EU and U.S. funds for collaborative projects.

Helena Mitchell attended the CTIA – Super Mobility 2015 convention September 8th - September 10th, 2015

Dr. Mitchell was invited by CTIA to speak at the Accessibility Outreach Initiative Forum on Wednesday, September 9th in Las Vegas, Nevada. The panel, “Advancing Access to Emergency Communication Technologies for Persons with Disabilities” was moderated by Matt Gerst, CTIA. Helena presented on Wireless Emergency Alerts and discussed key findings as a result of R&D sponsored funding by the Wireless RERC and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Science and Technology directorate.

Nathan W. Moon presented at 2015 Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) International conference in Los Angeles

Nathan W. Moon participated on a panel at the 17th Annual Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) International conference in Los Angeles, on August 5, 2015.  His presentation was titled “Determining the Efficacy of Communications Technologies and Practices to Broaden Participation in Education: Insights from a Theory of Change”  as part of a panel titled “New Models in Online Education: Equipping the Student of the Future.” He also co-authored two peer-reviewed articles on electronic mentoring and virtual worlds to support students with disabilities connected with the conference.
